The Graham-Mebane Lake is located off of Bason Rd. in Mebane. The lake is jointly owned by the City of Graham and the City of Mebane. It is the source of drinking water for the citizens of Graham, Mebane, Green Level and Swepsonville. It is also open for fishing and boating. Sorry, NO SWIMMING.

The Graham Recreation Department’s Graham-Mebane Lake, formerly know as Quaker Lake, was expanded from 150 acres to its present size of 650 acres in 1994. The lake now serves as a raw water source for the cities of Graham and Mebane. The new lake also serves as a recreation source for the citizens of the area offering skiing, bank fishing and sport fishing.

The 1994 expansion of the lake by the Cities of Graham and Mebane provided ample acreage to offer a separate water and Jet Ski area. The separate area allows for a safe skiing environment, while keeping prime fishing areas free of passing boat traffic. The expansion has also allowed the recreation department to host water-ski competitions without disturbing the fishing environment.

The Graham-Mebane Lake has been named one of the top ten fishing lakes in North Carolina. This distinction is due in large part to the lake’s expansion that created productive fishing areas. Also contributing to the fish population was the lake’s involvement in the Wildlife Commission’s Management program. The program was specifically aimed at the catfish population, producing a record channel catfish of 19 ¾ pounds. The Graham-Mebane Lake also supports a thriving largemouth bass population consistently producing trophy bass with the lake record weighing 12 pounds. Other species found at the lake include carp and brim.

In addition to the lake’s fishing pier, the recreation department installed fish attractors near prime bank fishing spots in 2000, allowing those citizens without a boat to enjoy fishing at the Graham-Mebane Lake.
